The E4 data structure is based on the digital coordinates of individual fields. The simple reason is farmers make their decisions that way, so all raw data—soil sample results, fertility history, yield history, chemical applications, hybrid/variety numbers—are aligned. Getting that raw data right is key to a useful, dependable system. E4 understands that since it’s what we have done for over a decade. The E4 system can also import data and information from other sources—soil type maps, Google maps (to help vendors locate fields) and weather (to grab growing degree days to schedule harvest.)
As the volume of data builds, growers (and their consultants and vendors who have system access) start to recognize the underlying reasons for variations in crop performance. The E4 system makes it easier to recognize patterns that can then be used to guide management decisions. We call this ability to recognize the underlying issues and anticipate ways to capitalize on those insights "crop intelligence."
